Safer Internet Day 2024: Inspiring Change and Promoting Online Safety
Safer Internet Day 2024, scheduled for 6 February, promises to be another important event for the global online community. This annual celebration, initiated by the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and now celebrated in nearly 170 countries worldwide, focuses on promoting online safety and raising awareness about the ever-evolving digital landscape.
Safer Internet Day in the UK is coordinated by the UK Safer Internet Centre, which is a partnership of three leading organisations: Childnet International , Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and SWGfL . This year’s theme is 'Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online.' In particular, Childnet and the MPA EMEA share a collaborative relationship aimed at promoting online safety and the future of the film and media industry. The MPA has been working with Childnet on initiatives such as the Childnet Film Competition and, of course, Safer Internet Day, to empower future generations of filmmakers and content consumers while educating them about the legal ways to enjoy a wide range of creative content.
The MPA EMEA has always been a strong supporter of a safe online environment. Protecting creativity and those who create it is one of our key missions. We are also profoundly invested in the protection of young audiences. Safer Internet Day's mission to promote safe and responsible digital technology use aligns with the MPA EMEA's commitment to protecting and empowering young consumers of media. So, make sure you mark your calendars now!
