#2 - Safe wrestling
Bring leadership to anything--anything at all--you will take some shots.
You've agreed to stand there, become visible, offer a possibility, and find a way forward. Some will join you, some will wrestle with you, and some snarl at you from their shadows.?Those who wrestle with you will make or break your leadership moments?as they point out flaws, add to the quality of the ideas, and bring their innovations to grow within and beyond your leadership.
More on emotional intelligence from my friends at?Mygrow.
How you respond--creating safety for those wrestling matches--grows from how you develop emotional intelligence and resilience. Safe wrestling is the birthplace for forging alignment for critical initiatives and future value. Without fellow wrestlers, when you most need the engagement of mind and heart toward the mission, you will be too caught up in self-protection, image enhancement, oneupmanship, domination, and gathering your sycophants. You will have alienated or lost your best support and will miss the opportunity to lead toward future value that helps the world flourish.

In my backpack:??Wolf Hall,?by Hilary Mantel
I've long been more fascinated by Thomas Cromwell than Henry VIII -- but always from an ignorant distance. Reformation history held greater interest for me than the politics of Cromwell's period or how the two entwined. Digging into this piece of historical fiction now to better round out my education. Perhaps I'll finally watch one of the?Anne Boleyn films.
