SAFe Industrial Graveyard?

SAFe Industrial Graveyard?

Over the last 24 months, I've been an outspoken critic of SAFe and everything that comes with it. Some call it skeptical, while others call it foolish. But no one has proven me wrong when I brought my arguments to the table. That's why this isn't the typical newsletter you might expect from me. But it's a scream for help. I am looking for it. I'm looking for one company in Europe where SAFe was successfully implemented, resulting in more impact, better outcomes, team autonomy, and increased business value. Allow me to explain myself.

Normally, I'd like to start these types of articles with something positive. A case in which a framework or technique was implemented positively, yielded excellent results, and had a significant positive impact on the organization's bottom line. The problem is that I don't know of a single example where SAFe resulted in positive business outcomes.

Next, From what I've seen and experienced over the years, I wouldn't want to work in an organization that actively uses SAFe. As a product management professional, I believe that having direct access to customers, users,?developers, and data is critical to doing my job. The same goes for empowerment, and I believe that the only way to build the right thing is to give teams the freedom to do so. And SAFe simply does not do that.

Sorry, that was a bit harsh,?let me rephrase everything I've said so far: "All the SAFe implementations I've seen or heard about haven't resulted in increased impact, effective product development, or better outcomes." This leaves one possible solution open: I have yet to come across that organisation.

So I started doing some research. And, to my surprise, I discovered positive outcomes, primarily for banks, insurance companies, and ministries. But I'm familiar with those organizations. If you are serious about creating great products, you should avoid working in the majority of them. They usually scale innovation by killing it with process, have no interest in real product discovery, and if you manage to survive and stay around, bureaucratic procedures and top-down management will eventually bring you down. So I?chose Silicon Valley as my next?source of inspiration.

.. and moved on. Nobody in Silicon Valley takes SAFe seriously. In fact, I couldn't find a single technology company, product-led?organization, scale-up, or fintech that uses SAFe.

So I need your help. I want to know how this works and what happens. I'm looking for one company that has implemented SAFe and has been able to attract more product management professionals, create a culture of builders, and empower teams to build great?products with a demonstrable increase in outcomes and impact. From a business perspective, not from an efficiency standpoint.
