"Safe Harbor 2.0" = EU-US Privacy Shield

"Safe Harbor 2.0" = EU-US Privacy Shield

New umbrella agreement between EU and US is born, at least on paper. Just in time, since the old one was canceled at the end of January.

On a quick look the statements that U.S. counter parties have given to this framework are looking dimly promising, since this is the first time U.S. authorities have given any kind of statement that give any hope for them to compromise their views on mass surveillance and it's relations to their national security.

Interesting to see how they are going to match this promised "transparent and limited surveillance" obligation with the CISA (Cybersecurity Infromation Sharing Act) that was passed in U.S. as federal law, stating just the opposite as this EU-US Privacy Shield.

Other is created by Government and NSA, other is made by trade organizations... Hmm. Its going to be a tight match. ;)

And then of course there's Patriot Act that directly bans all informing of data subjects about national security authorities inquiries, directly contradicting the GDPR and EU Privacy Regulation.
