Sadness of Inception
I certainly believe that, inception carries an essence of a Shakespearean sort of tragedy. Nolan has fantastically described in this movie; that an “idea” is the strongest parasite, like a virus, highly contagious and given the right conviction stays somewhere in the mind forever- is a fiercely powerful truth. It can change the notion of the fundamental outlook of any person’s worldview and of oneself.
There’re some groundbreaking intellectual frontiers explored in this movie, not just the screenwriting part of it, but the valley of the movie itself is compelling in its art of storytelling.
The reason, I could resonate with the deepened tragedy of the plot is because, the most rooted form of love is far more complex than being romantic. Mal, represents that intense form of love, who is helplessly struck between the indifference of reality and dream, where takes a dreadful leap of faith, that regrettably ends her life.
While Cobb, reflects a similarly tragic yet, a complexly broken character who is rooted in love with his wife, and is swallowed with guilt for implanting the idea in Mal’s mind that the world they live in, isn’t a reality but a dream and must once die to wake up, which sadly distorted her conscious awareness between the dream & reality, even after they finally wake up from the longest dream.
Here is a story about a couple, the man and woman intensely in love with each other, obsessed with each other, wants to live for a very long time creating a new world, together, but where one lost sanity between reality and dream, and while the other is aware but couldn’t forgive himself, for his grievous decision. Cobb had a very strong heart, a heavy one, that paid off in the last few moments of catharsis, which is during the climactic scene where Cobb finally makes it to the kids.
This core drama, amidst all the mindboggling & ambiguous cinematic experience makes Inception, a lot stronger, emotionally a deeper storyline, worthy enough to experience how deeply one can confront emotions such as love, guilt & a lot of grey intense emotions tied up with time, decisions & chances of life.
It is an important film, that speaks and questions about reality being subjective, i.e. to choose whichever one wants to. As much satisfying as it sounds, unluckily we aren’t given a choice, we have to live with a singular reality that we experience, but with all the shades of our past, forgiving, forgetting and embracing at the same time.
Inception revolves around loads of intellectual & technical topics, which are widely spoken, but when I saw the second time to understand the philosophical and psychological layers, this movie moved me, deeply sad. I felt to grieve with cobb throughout, & smile with cobb in the end. This decides on how important emotions are to our species, as that defines ourselves to be unanimously Human.
To experience emotions through reading or through cinema, is heavily addictive, and it aches in reality, to empathize with fictional characters more than real people, because in reality, you can’t emote the way you want to, while there are a hundred restrictions and filtering of opinions, but, if they’re fictional, they can be admired, ached along, and hugged as well, even when you’re in tears with hands down.

1 年This tragic storyline of them could easily be the most painful and emotional spin off movie/web series in itself.. Thanks for noting this and penning it here. ??
