Sadly this has nothing to do with record players (neither my original Linn LP12 nor my Technics SL-1200 replica)
Not too long ago, but before I joined my current team, I realised in a meeting I was running that not rarely enough did someone with the intention of sharing information read out loud from a PowerPoint projected on a white wall fully visible for all of us.
It’s been frequented in media lately that robots may seize our jobs, well, that particular job would not be irreplaceable - if we would need such a job at all that is - which off course in my view we do not.
I believe a conversation adds value when people speak about things they know and when the words come out from the same brain that created the thought. As an experiment I changed the format of this particular meeting to Analogue.
No PowerPoint. No projector. Nothing digital to hold your hand, leaving us unplugged with our bare experience and brain capacity.
Yes, the quality of the meeting became better. Participants started to know well what they talked about. We added value almost the entire time spent. And yes, we all became irreplaceable by a machine, at least the ones we know of today!

6 年Powerpoints and presentations are used so wrong in so many places - they should support a presentation, not be the presentation. The presentation is about performance, about words - or in meetings as you mention, about conversation! I most often bring just a few papers with figures for meetings - it is a completely different discussion you get, when you collect around a piece of paper and discuss the content and figures, than if you lean back and just watch a slideshow with bullet points.?

6 年Henrik, I believe having someone put together a presentation (i.e. PPT) helps them focus on what they want to clarify and succinctly put forth their points in the discussion.? Not to say they need to bring it to the meeting, but on their end, to review and have a concise view that they can come to meetings, and have the visuals in their mind on what they wish to speak about openly and candidly.

7 年Absolutely agree. I used reverse storming in my meeting. The changed format of meeting was a great experience.
