SADC workshops boost NDC process
Two SADC countries have taken a step forward along the route to the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) with workshops in April 2023.
NDCs represent countries’ efforts to cut national emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. Genesis works with the NDC Partnership (NDCP), a global coalition, to provide analytical support to inform decision-making related to the development of Partnership Plans and NDC implementation by NDCP developing-country members. An example of this is our support for Zimbabwe and Zambia at the April workshops.
In Harare, Genesis and the Zimbabwean government’s Climate Change Management Department co-hosted a workshop on 21 April supported by the NDCP and UN Development Programme.?
The workshop was part of a technical assistance process entitled “Assessing sectoral complementarities and progress for NDC implementation”. It was attended by more than 40 stakeholders including government, civil society, and private sector and development partners.
Meantime, Zambia’s Ministry of Green Economy and Environment hosted a workshop in Lusaka on 25 April to validate the country’s NDC Implementation Draft.?
The workshop targeted stakeholders in the Zambian government and was sponsored by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency.?
The event marked an important and almost final milestone in a long stakeholder consultation process to develop an implementation plan for the NDC submitted in 2021. It aimed to refine some of the key performance indicators in the plan, and to assess the validity of the underlying assumptions in the costing of the plan.?
The Implementation Framework was officially launched on 17 May.
