A Sad Week for Canada – The Passing of Architect Eberhard Zeidler

It is a sad week for Canada, for architecture and for the global real estate community.?One of Canada’s, and in my view, the world’s most accomplished and distinguished architects has passed away, after almost 97 years of making a real difference in everything he did, and to every life he touched.

On a professional level, Eb and his team at Zeidler Roberts Partnership Architects, for several decades, were as prolific as they were powerful in their planning and architectural contributions to neighborhoods, communities, and skylines globally.?Some of his projects include: Eaton Centre, Ontario Place, Queen’s Quay Terminal, the Hospital for Sick Children, Mount Sinai in Toronto, and Canada Place for Expo ‘86 in Vancouver.?Globally his contributions include: MediaPark in Germany, Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco, and the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, to name just a few.?The number of awards and recognitions that have justifiably gone his way are innumerable, but they include the Order of Ontario and the Order of Canada…which explains so very much.

On a personal level, I have been blessed to know Eb since my 15th birthday.?He has been a mentor, a champion, a huge influence on my career choices, and a true friend of now four generations of my direct and extended family.

Eb, you have made a huge difference – to so many – and to so much – during your kind, gentle, elegant, and brilliant walk on the planet.
