Sad Day

Yesterday was one of the saddest days for a long time, attending the funeral of Michael Fletcher Executive Chef at Eagle Farm Brisbane, along with hundreds of other mourners, it was great to see so many chefs in attendance in their uniforms as a measure of respect. Michael (or Fletch as we all knew him) was unquestionably one of Australia’s best chefs, who was love admired and respected by everybody in the hospitality industry for his decency and generosity. I cannot believe I was attending the funeral of the young boy I employed as an apprentice chef straight from school, when I was the General Manager of the Queensland Cricketers Club in the late 70s. My heart goes out to his wife and four children and the rest of his family. I guess it’s another reminder of the fragility of life. Maybe one of the best thing’s us blokes can do in memory of Fletch is get a medical check-up, Fletch died from an unexpected heart attack.
