Sacred Sound: The Gift of Rachel

Sacred Sound: The Gift of Rachel

Rachel was still in my sister’s womb, but while in a dream state one night, I was given a secret glimpse into something eternal and sacred.

I’d been living overseas for many years, oceans away from my sisters in the States. I was at a friend’s house in England, curled up on a strange couch, tossing and turning, struggling to fall asleep. Before dozing off in the early hours of the morning, I suddenly began to witness an extraordinary scene: I was watching an earthen rotunda made of rich, muddy soil with clay alcoves. A beautiful figure sat at the edge of a sacred pool, communing with sound. Fully alive and radiant, her earthy skeleton seemed to be made of the same fertile soil as the cave. She had no flesh yet or eyes, but her bones were rich with life, sprouting buds and shoots.

She grazed the surface of the water with her middle finger, gently rocking back and forth, with great devotion. The sound connected her indelibly with God, like a sacred covenant, to the source of all things. She had brown, straw-like hair and wore a muddy white dress, but her Divine beauty radiated through her connected heart and into her beatific aura.

Somehow, I knew it was my niece.

I was careful of my own breathing, exhaling slowly so I wouldn’t disrupt this holy scene. I savored every moment, letting the sound permeate my being and memory with its glorious resonance. I could feel the sparkling colors of the sound energy and its ability to communicate eternity, purpose, and warmth. Witnessing her in love with God, communing soulfully in complete oneness, was powerful. It spoke to me of unconditional love, acceptance, and family.

And then, something changed. Someone called to her, giving a command. Without hesitation, rising blissfully—in full, reverent obedience—she left, and the scene changed abruptly.

Now I was looking at large, tropical leaves that blocked my view. Within a split second, she was back! She parted the leaves and approached me, looking radiant in full human form, her bright hazel eyes gazing straight into my soul. This time, she wore a dress so pure and white that it glowed. Her long, thick hair cascaded down her back. She seemed to emerge from the palms like a warrior of Divine love and purpose.

My eyes opened just before she walked right through me and I blinked in the darkness, crying proclaiming “Rachel is born!”

The sound I’d experienced was still with me and resonated within me all day. Finally, I got word from my family: Rachel had indeed been born. I was honored when my sister asked me to be her Godmother.

Twenty-three years have passed, and Rachel and I have maintained our sacred bond. We wind up in one another's dreams. We delve together into mysterious and serendipitous adventures and share spiritual experiences only we understand.

I believe we're from the same spirit tribe. We are here to support one another in this life. Her strong affinity for sound has remained; she continues to be drawn to sound healing and sound energy.

“I say I’m Divinely guided all the time and I know that’s how we are,” she told me in an excited text. “We’re led by Divine guidance and the voice of the universe, which is why I feel so blessed. I thank God every day that this is my journey, and this is how my soul chooses to experience Earth this time around.”?

I enjoy standing by as her spiritual guardian, holding space for her and watching her grow and experience different life phases. I don’t know where her journey will take her, but I believe sound will be a part of it, because it is such a part of her.?

Many years after her birth, I had another dream about Rachel. She was singing a song understood by the Faeries. I don’t know much about faeries, but I know the dream was vivid and true. I dreamed I had taken her to a kind of summer school training where she would learn the ways of the Fae and I’d watched her confidently cross a little stone wall into their magical kingdom.?

The behavior of the Fae was different than I had imagined. They seemed easily annoyed and short-tempered, but they adored Rachel and softened in her presence. In fact, they gathered around her like children wanting to hear a story, and as she sat on a little grassy mound and began singing a story to them, they shrieked with giggles and danced in revelry, singing along with her. They were delighted with her, just as I have always been.

I feel blessed to have heard the song of Rachel’s soul, before she was even born.

Allison Kenny I really enjoyed reading this poem about your niece, especially ending it with an epilogue. From a poetic standpoint, it could be imagined that your niece witnessed your coming to this Earth from the heavenly realms. Now she's here to guide you through your journey's and dreams. This is truly a gift poem.
