Lesson 12 of the FemFuel Fempreneurial Journey
Throughout my career, I've been privileged to encounter awe-inspiring stories of women who not only went big but also embodied a distinct entrepreneurial spirit.
These stories are not just tales of success; they are blueprints of resilience, adaptability, and unwavering determination. This is the 12th lesson, saboteur showdown
Yes, we have them all.. These moments that prick our nerves, trigger our frustrations, and set our blood boiling.
These moments, dear reader, are what we colloquially refer to as triggers—those pesky little saboteurs that lurk in the shadows, waiting to pounce on our peace of mind. But fear not, for I am here to guide you through the labyrinth of your triggers, helping you navigate the minefield with grace and poise. Although I try too. As these saboteurs they will pop up! Its just about understanding them!
Identifying Your Saboteurs
The first step in mastering your triggers is to identify them with ruthless precision. What are the things that make you see red? Is it the presence of a saboteur—a well-meaning friend or colleague whose actions inadvertently push your buttons? Or perhaps it's their adherence to traditions that leave you feeling restless and agitated.
Take a moment to reflect on the key times when your saboteurs rear their ugly heads. Is it during moments of uncertainty or stress? Or perhaps it's when you find yourself with nothing to do and your mind starts to wander into the dark alleys of negativity.
Here's a pet peeve of mine: skiing up to an elevator, only to find people standing right in the middle of the slope, blocking the way. It's enough to make my blood boil! Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps
Understanding Your Triggers
Once you've identified your saboteurs, it's time to understand their favorite habits and modus operandi. Do they have a penchant for questioning your decisions, spreading negativity like wildfire, or making you feel insecure about your abilities?
Think back to specific instances when your saboteurs made their presence known. Was it during a casual conversation about the weather that somehow turned into a marathon gripe session? Or perhaps it was when a seemingly innocuous comment from a friend triggered a wave of insecurity and self-doubt.
An example of mine is when we are at a family gathering, enjoying a casual conversation about upcoming vacation plans. Suddenly, a relative interjects with negative comments about the destinations I have chosen. Everything is negative, it’s dangerous… Then I think: hey I am going. Not you.
These instances help you understand how your saboteurs operate and the specific behaviors that trigger negative emotions within you. Armed with this awareness, you can begin to develop strategies to manage and overcome these triggers in the future.
Navigating the Minefield
Armed with this newfound knowledge, it's time to navigate the minefield of your triggers with skill and finesse. When faced with a trigger, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you are in control. Reframe the situation in your mind, focusing on the positive rather than the negative.

For example, when a friend makes a comment that triggers your impatience, resist the urge to react impulsively. Instead, take a moment to reflect on why their comment triggered you and consider how you can respond in a more constructive manner.
Similarly, when faced with a situation that triggers your insecurities, remind yourself of your worth and value. Focus on your strengths and accomplishments, rather than dwelling on your perceived shortcomings.
In Conclusion
Mastering your triggers is not an easy task, but with practice and perseverance, it is possible to navigate the minefield with grace and poise. By identifying your saboteurs, understanding their habits, and adopting a proactive mindset, you can reclaim control of your emotions and live a more peaceful and fulfilling life. So go forth, dear reader, and face your triggers head-on. The power to conquer them lies within you.
