SaaS Strategy Series: Introduction

SaaS Strategy Series: Introduction

Frameworks for Strategic Decision Making

Strategy departments or functions are often seen as exclusively for M&A or initial go-to-market analysis, and then after a course is set by leadership, are viewed as tangential or unnecessary. The reality is: your strategy needs to change, shift, and grow as you mature as a company.

While it is very normal to see decision making in all departments of a company from marketing, product management and engineering, to market research, the really big sea change decisions shouldn't be without thorough analysis, outsourced, or "made on the fly" by leadership. These big decisions impact where you focus, where you invest and how you optimize revenue for the long-term. It becomes critical to chose the right path that will optimize customer growth and revenue expansion.

Many of the big decisions that a SaaS software or services company make are multi-dimensional. Strategic frameworks are important tools to ensure you are making these decisions consider all factors, and that people across your company thinking have a common framework to think about the same problem.

This series helps provide a number of different strategic frameworks for SaaS companies to use when deciding where to invest and focus. Chapters in the series includes:

  1. Market Segment Focus
  2. Are you B2B or B2C?
  3. Prioritizing Partnerships
  4. Verticalized Go-to-Market
  5. E-Commerce Strategy
  6. SaaS Marketing (coming soon...)
  7. Targeting Builders or Buyers? (coming soon...)
  8. SaaS Professional Services (coming soon...)
  9. Generative AI Roadmapping

As chapters are released, links to each will be added above. Please feel free to follow the series, and add your own comments on tips and tricks your company has used to improve strategic decision making.
