Solutions for the Planet
Our mission is to bring young people and businesses together to share knowledge and shape a more sustainable world.
Dhanayus, from Normanton,?West Yorkshire, took part in?our?S4TP Big Ideas Programme?2021 and made it to the National Finals!?Here he?talks?about working?with S4TP Youth Insights?by?joining Northern Gas Networks’ Young Innovators Council?(YIC)?2023.?
“My idea for the Big Ideas Programme was ‘Greenways’. The Greenways idea was to repurpose some of the 6000+ miles of abandoned railway tracks?in the UK as parks to walk along. This has happened in some of the places I specified, such as Castlefield Viaduct in Manchester. Taking part in the Big Ideas Programme in 2021 really made me dream big with my future and?convinced me to pursue a future in town planning and transport planning.?
I heard about the Young Innovators Council (YIC) through our school’s Duke of Edinburgh Award. I wanted to join the YIC because I had enjoyed my time previously with Solutions for the Planet. I also thought it would be great for my future and a good thing to have on a CV. Having previously taken part in the Big Ideas Programme, I was already acquainted with Solutions for the Planet as a?company and had a great time, so it made me want to do more with the organisation.

The skills I think I can carry from the Big Ideas Programme into my time on the YIC are a sense of big-picture thinking and the feeling that we are improving the world by interacting with the YIC. The YIC is an important outlet for young people?to voice concern and work with a company like NGN to ultimately improve the quality of life for all.?
To any young people wanting to engage with project like the YIC I would say:
"Speak your mind, it’s not an exam. These companies and organisations really want your true opinions and feelings on a topic.”?
