Sásta Skin School: Understanding your skin's pH

This week with Sásta Skin School: Understanding your skin's pH.

What is your skin pH?

pH, the potential of hydrogen, measures how acidic your skin is. Your skin's ideal pH level on most of your face and body is recorded between 4.7 and 5.7. This means your skin is slightly acidic.

What happens when our skin's pH is off balance?

If your skin falls out of this range due to environmental factors, topical products, or hydration levels, your skin barrier can weaken and leave you more susceptible to skin issues.

Why is our skin acidic?

The microbiome is dependent on our acid mantle's pH levels to be slightly acidic, to stop the growth of pathogens. Without this ideal acidity, the microbiome and your underlying lipid barrier, your moisture warrior, cannot thrive.

How do we support our skin's pH levels?

  1. Nourish your skin: Feed and support your skin's microbiome with accredited products, like our Microbiome Booster Serum.
  2. Dietary changes: Decrease acidic foods and drinks in your diet such as coffee, processed foods, and sugar.
  3. Gentle Cleansing: Use lukewarm water on your skin instead of hot water as it can strip it, leaving it feeling dry.

Understanding and maintaining your skin's pH is a crucial step towards achieving healthier and happier skin. Stay tuned for more enlightening lessons at Sásta Skin School!
