Ryanair Move into Private Jet Market

Ryanair Move into Private Jet Market

European Low Cost carrier (LCC) Ryanair,  has launched a private jet service to cater to companies, sports teams or large travel groups.

The Dublin-based carrier announced today it now has a customised Boeing 737-800 available for charter ‘at the most competitive rate in Europe.’
The plane, which will be painted in Ryanair’s livery, features 60 business class seats – all leather and reclining – and, at an extra cost, Champagne and gourmet food for passengers.

With fewer rows of seats, passengers will enjoy far more space than they would on a commercial flight operated by Ryanair and they will not be subject to the same baggage restrictions or fees.

On the corporate jet, each business class seat will have a pitch (the distance between seats) of 48in, although it does not convert into a lie-flat bed.
The seat pitch on the airline's commercial flights is 30in, with 289 seats between premium and economy classes on Boeing 737 aircraft.

The private jet will be crewed by Ryanair pilots and cabin crew on medium to long-haul journeys up to six hours in length.

The market pricing for a Boeing 737-700 is £8,000 to £9,000 per flying hour plus landing charges. At that rate, a 2 hour flight from London to Barcelona would cost around £32,000 for a return flight, or £533.30 per person at 60 passengers.

With their existing crews, maintenance contracts, landing arrangements and fuel deals, Ryanair will be able to position themselves competitively, undercutting companies like Swiss based Privatair, that have been in this space for a while.

The hurdle Ryanair are going to have to overcome is people's perception of low-cost cheap service. They are going to have to up their game big time on inflight service and train their Cabin Crew to serve a much more high-end client.

There is definitely a need for this type of aircraft on the market and if Ryanair can deliver a great inflight service and can see the populating European skies with 10-12 of these aircraft over the next 3 years.
