?? #RWWCommunity Hero Spotlight: Michael B.

Every month, we introduce an RWW Community Hero who has shared their story, tips, and/or support to showcase our valued members around the world.

Meet Michael:

I started working remotely in 2002 when a corporate layoff put me back in the job market. I found more freelancing projects than job offers, so I started a web development business.

To keep my costs down, I put an office in my basement. It was comfy, but some days I just wanted to see daylight. I created a server-based workflow so I could grab a laptop, head to a local coffee shop, and pick up where I left off.

I loved not having a commute, spending more time with my wife and two kids, and flexing my work day.

In 2010, we took advantage of being remote-working homeschoolers and left on what we thought would be a one-year full-time family RV trip.

One year stretched into eight as we realized how RV life enabled us to sample experiences like houseboating, workcamping, homesteading, animal care, vanlife, and community life.

Love the stories shared in this newsletter. It's so awesome to see all of the success. Enjoy the people are having in finding their calling in remote work. It is amazing to me to hear about all of the challenges that people are having around remote work. With the recent return to office mandates from large companies, it always makes me wonder what's the real reason that they want, all of us to be mandated to go back into the office. Clearly, some people like working in an office and some work requires people to be in the same place at the same time. However, if the pandemic taught us anything it's that work can be done from anywhere at any time and we can be hyper productive at the same time. Honestly, there are tons of statistics that showcase how remote work can be so beneficial to so many different types of people. I wonder if anyone in this group has any insights on why there is pushback around remote work. I have my theories, but would love to hear from others as well..
