R+W Safetycoupling TORQSET STF/40 in a cold rolling mill

After 30 years of production of catalytic sheets in a #cold #rolling #mill, the time was right for several renewals. One of it was the replacement of a shearbolt coupling, located between the two halves of a gear #coupling, type Flender ZAPEX.

In case of torque peaks, the shearbolt coupling should prevent the plant from severely being damaged by torque peaks. A great technical and commercial alternative came up with the #R+W safety #coupling type TORQSET STF/40.

Though the gear #coupling was in need of new greasing, there was no reason for not further using.

And this was excellent: considering a change of the gear #coupling, either the intermediate #gearbox or the main #gearbox had to be moved axially. Due to the tons of weight of both sides, this had to become an impossible duty.

The solution? The #R+W TORQSET STF/40 was mounted in a couple of minutes, according the fittings of both gear #coupling hubs. From this moment on, the STF/40 prevents the whole plant from being damaged by torque peaks and so in turn it saves a lot of costs to the operator.
