Rwanda and TMA's Push for Digital Innovation at Upcoming Africa Trade Development Forum

In a recent visit to KRA(KENYA REVENUE AUTHORITY) our Board Chair, former Executive Prime Minister of Ethiopia H.E #HailemariamDesalegn, had a firsthand look at groundbreaking digital tools transforming trade and securing revenues in Eastern Africa. Among these innovations, the Regional Electronic Cargo Tracking System that enables revenue authorities of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and DRC to jointly monitor transit cargo; and KRA’s advanced cargo scanning technology that is deployed on all Kenya borders (water, land, air), stood out. Combined, these technologies have contributed to the dramatic cut down of the time it takes to transport goods along the Northern Corridor, reduced the cost of doing business as companies are able to plan better and plugged revenue leaks that once seemed intractable.

H.E Hailemariam Desalegn, who once chaired the African Union, has consistently advocated for trade as a lever for continental integration. Now, as he steps into his role as the Board Chair of TMA, he will host the return of the highly anticipated Africa Trade Development Forum which was last held over 5 years ago. ?The forum, co-hosted with the Government of Rwanda, Ministry of Trade and Industry, is making a major comeback, with 8 ministers from Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry, Uganda Namibia, @Tanzania Ministry of Trade Rwanda, #Djibouti and #Ethiopia confirming attendance.

Themed Unlocking Africa’s Trade Potential through Digital Innovation, #ATDF2024 prides itself as - made in Africa, by Africa, for Africa and is a clarion call to innovate and advance trade solutions that increase Africa’s share of trade in the world and increase intra-african trade for prosperity. ?

As we count down to #ATDF2024 lets reflect on the potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat . Did you know that the AfCFTA is poised to lift about 30 million people out of poverty? This can be achieved by having the right partnerships, and the right people on the decision-making table and equipping them with the right tools. ?

#Stay tuned for more updates and follow along for the #accreditation link to be part of this exciting journey towards a richer and more integrated Africa.
