Mi-8 Emergency Landing in Okhotsk

A Mil Mi-8T helicopter, operated by Dalnerechensk Avia with registration RA-24722, made an emergency landing on a spit of the Ulya River in the Okhotsk region, Khabarovsk Territory, Russia, after one of its engines failed during a flight from Okhotsk Airport to the Svetloye field helipad. On board were 25 individuals—22 passengers and three crew members—all of whom were employees of Polymetal LLC and remained unharmed following the incident; the helicopter itself did not sustain any visible damage. Investigations into the incident are underway by the Far Eastern Transport Prosecution Office and the Eastern Investigative Department for Transport under the suspicion of violating flight safety laws. FAA Probes Boeing Allegations

Federal authorities are investigating Boeing after an engineer, a whistleblower, claimed manufacturing shortcuts were taken in the 777 and 787 Dreamliner jets, potentially reducing the aircrafts' lifespans and risking catastrophic failures as they age. Salehpour's formal complaint to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), filed in January and disclosed on Tuesday, asserts quality issues could significantly shorten the life of over 1,400 aircrafts, specifically citing improper fuselage part assembly in Dreamliners that may accelerate wear. The FAA, emphasizing the importance of voluntary reporting for aviation safety, is conducting interviews as part of its inquiry, while Boeing disputes the claims, affirming the safety and integrity of its aircraft despite previous concerns over manufacturing processes. Q&A #8: SARPcheck safety audit, global wet lease, codeshare, ACMI Booster

Question:

What does it take to prepare an airline for a SARPcheck Audit?

Answer:

In theory, every operator should be in full compliance with all requirements since the applicable ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) from the selected ICAO Annexes constitute the fundamental basis upon which state lawmakers are required to create and enforce regulations that are compliant with these ICAO Annexes. This constitutes a positive initial step. However, it's worth noting that any airline undergoing a SARPcheck audit will receive all the necessary information for their preparation from their Safety Quality Organization (SQO)—the audit firms. Alternatively, they have the option to choose a different SQO than the one conducting the audit for their preparation services.

In this series I am answering some of the many questions I am asked following the recent release of this new program, which boosts both safety levels and airline businesses by enabling wet leases, codeshares, charters and ACMI. Send me your questions or find more information on www.SARP.org!
