The Rush to Produce AI-Generated Content Is Leading to a Flood of Mediocrity

We create sizzling content ?? to fuel your marketing strategy and generate traffic, leads, and customers. We turn your CRM into a revenue powerhouse ?? with strategic planning ?? and magnetic content.??
Since ChatGPT became all the rage late last year, AI has made everyone a little crazy. It reminds me of when IKEA came to town. We all eagerly awaited store openings, so we could run to the maze of cheap flat furniture none of us needed but desperately wanted.?
And here we are with all these new tools that everyone is frenetic about. People share all the stuff they create with ChatGPT, Jasper, and Copy.Ai, among the many other sources creating content for them in minutes.
Yeah. Just what we need.
More unoriginal, mediocre, unvetted, unedited content to clog up our inboxes, social media feeds, and DMs.
Don’t get me wrong. I love all these tools.?
ChatGPT is brilliant. It helps distill information, research, replicate things we’ve done hundreds of times, and it does it all in seconds.
But there is a downside.
I worry that many are using it to create crap and then putting that crap out there.
This isn’t new.
There are a lot of people/companies that put a lot of unoriginal, boring, inaccurate content out there. It’s not a crime.
But, ChatGPT helps us, encourages us, and even baits us to do loads of it quickly.
I was on a webinar Friday with almost 100 successful entrepreneurs sharing how they were using ChatGPT. Things like creating books in a week, grabbing information off LinkedIn to create cold emails, turning transcripts into social media posts, and highlighting article takeaways.
Are you excited to get out there and consume all this AI-generated content?
I’m a huge believer that the world doesn’t need more shitty, mediocre content.
We’ve got enough of it.

We need thoughtful, original, human content that adds value. That educates, entertains, informs, and inspires.
Yes, AI tools help kick-start this to generate ideas, be more effective, and distill information to get to the meat quicker.
Sometimes, it can even say something better than we can.
But, just like great ingredients don’t make a great dish without the chef, more content doesn’t equate to more value.
We are in the infancy of this new AI Wild Wild West.
It’s exciting; it’s fast-moving. And, of course, none of us want to be left behind.
We don’t want to miss out on all the opportunities it affords.
It makes us want to move faster, take advantage of it, and not miss out on anything. As if we aren’t moving fast enough already.
I want AI to serve me and my business in a way that adds value to make things better and elevate humanity.
I believe human connection, having a “soul,” and caring about the quality are all more important than spewing more mediocrity out there.
I don’t think we need things to move faster.
I think we need to all take a breath and make sure we are controlling the narrative.
We all have more power with all these tools, and in the words of the great Stan Lee, “With great power comes great responsibility.”
Let’s use it wisely.

1 年Spot on!! I just recorded a podcast on the same topic. What stood out to me was some outright untrue responses from chatGPT (like I had written a book). As well as complete rip off of other peoples IP without acknowledging ownership copyrighted content. Nothing replaces innovative actual intelligence that allows us a view into new concepts and new ways of addressing old problems.

1 年Well said, Wendy! It's a great tool if used properly. And, there is not substitute for heart, soul, and actual intelligence.

1 年Well said Wendy... the trend toward mediocrity has been growing at a disturbing rate, especially with images... the rush toward AI will make this even worse... just imagine the AI generated stuff from screwy, bad requests, written in pigeon english... "but hey, the computer did it, it's gotta be good..." it's gonna get ugly...
