Runyon Roots: Tim Ricker
A native Hoosier and unabashed Gen Xer, Tim Ricker was born and raised with his four siblings on the north side of Indy. Living just down the street from both the canal and Art Museum, Tim spent his childhood playing sports around the neighborhood, helping with the family newspaper route, and swimming at the Y. As his father taught History and was the head football coach at Crispus Attucks, Tim went there for High School and played football, golf, and wrestled for all 4 years. Being the 80’s, he was also quite the dancer, enjoying his time in the spotlight as a break dancer with his group, Jam Connection.
After High school, Tim worked summers as a lifeguard where he became fast friends with RSP’s own Matt McDonald. They both attended college at Indiana University, where Tim was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He also played football all 4 years, playing in two bowl games, the Peach Bowl vs the Tennessee Volunteers and Winning the Liberty Bowl vs South Carolina. After graduating with a degree in Education, he got his first “real” Job teaching Biology at North Central while coaching football and wrestling. While working there for 13 years, he obtained his Masters in Science Education at Indiana University and went on to work as Science Department Chair, Instructional Coach, and eventually became Science Curriculum Coordinator for the Indianapolis Public School System.
In 1996 he married Wendy Runyon (after being paired to walk down the aisle together at their friend’s wedding) and by 2002 they had four children: Reagan, Raley, Roc, and Race. After a final stint in academia teaching biology at Guerin High School, in 2019 Tim joined the family business at Runyon Surface Prep and came aboard as the general manager. He’s been with RSP ever since, supervising daily operations, helping customers, and doing whatever it takes to keep things running smoothly.

?In his free time, Tim likes to camp, kayak, garden, dine out, and spend time with his kids, who are now spread out between the Midwest and East Coast. And sometimes when he’s in town, he even manages to get some work done around the house. Presently, he and Wendy have 2 dogs, 1 cat, and are known to help out with their daughter’s 2 Great Danes. For the past 5 years, Tim has been indispensable as RSP’s customer-facing base of knowledge. When you walk in the door at Runyon, he’s one of the first smiling faces you’ll see. And if you have a job to do, he’ll be there for you to help get it done right. We’re all so thankful for Tim’s wit and expertise and can’t wait to see what great things he has in store for RSP.
