A Hoosier transplant from the Great Lakes region, RSP’s ever-busy inventory manager, Greg Janisse, was born and raised in Grayling, Michigan, a small town in the middle of the state?named after the Grayling species of fish and famous for?hosting the Au Sable River Canoe Marathon.?As expected of a faithful Northern Michigander, hunting, fishing, and skiing were a huge part of his life growing up. Basically, he began fishing with his dad as soon as he could hold a pole and got his first deer before his 13th birthday.

When it came to sports, in middle school he migrated toward baseball and football, but it wasn’t until his freshman year at Roscommon High School that he found his true love in wrestling. From then on, there was no looking back. He wrestled every year there, competing for championships and earning accolades as the team went to the state tournament 3 years in a row and topped the school win record. During that time, he also worked as a caddy when he wasn’t?hauling canoes?for?Water’s Edge canoe livery.

?

After high school, Greg attended Trine University, in Angola, IN where he wrestled for the JV and varsity teams.?He also worked for the DNR as an ORV technician, maintaining trailheads and helping with land management. His senior year he started working at Dunham’s Sporting Goods as a cashier, and when his DNR position was phased out after college, he returned to Dunham’s and was promoted to management. He spent the next eleven years managing stores in Kokomo, Bedford, and Crawfordsville; tracking inventory; and traveling across the Midwest to open new stores. On September 13, 2014 he married Ashley Runyon, who he’d met in college. And in a large part, because of that union, the sporting goods world was not destined to hold onto him indefinitely. For when his wife’s cousin, Wendy (Runyon Ricker), mentioned at a family gathering that she was looking for an inventory manager with real world experience, Greg stepped up to the challenge and the rest is history.

Now Runyon Surface Prep’s inventory manager since 2021, Greg’s responsibilities include weekly cycle counts, purchase order generation, new product additions, and maintaining the entire inventory database in Netsuite. He and Ashley have since moved to Noblesville, IN and now have two children, Steven (6) and Virginia (1 ?); 2 dogs, Rosco and Teddy; and Theta the cat. Greg still enjoys all the outdoor activities from his childhood, in addition to spending time with his family and coaching wrestling, where he serves as secretary for the Noblesville Wrestling Club. As a matter of fact,?lessons learned from wrestling help him every single day, reminding him that life is not always easy and success generally comes from hard work. And with over 5000 different items to keep track of, hard work is in no short supply! Everyone at RSP is so thrilled to have Greg on the team and are ever thankful for his dedication, determination, and expertise.
