Runnymede Park - Contracts Exchanged
Charles Fraser-Sampson
Senior Associate Director, Head of Pangbourne Office and Henley-on-Thames
It has been a long journey getting to this point but I and those involved with this sale at Strutt & Parker are extremely pleased to now be able to announce that this rather unique, Grade I listed, 18th century, manor house with ancillary accommodation, set within 64 acres of surrounding parkland with a guide price of £8 million will now live on again and is due to be restored to its former glory by the new owner.
A fascinating place, which in more recent times was once earmarked after the Second Wold War to become a safari park before Windsor Safari Park (the current site of Legoland) eventually went ahead instead. The estate was then believed to be abandoned with no future plans and became hugely overgrown with the main house falling into complete dis-repair. In the late 1970s it was discovered and rescued by the family whom have now sold and they embarked upon an epic and extremely expensive restoration project which was fully documented in a huge catalogue of photo albums which are staying with the house and featured in a Country Life article.
Like with most properties such as this, it is now time for it to move from one custodian to another and the new owner intends to once again embark upon a restoration project to preserve all that already exists and future-proof Runnymede Park for another generation, embracing it's history and writing a brand new chapter no doubt.
