Running the London Marathon 2016 for the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity

My challenge

I took up running 3 years ago in an attempt to keep my fitness levels up as I hit my mid-30s and have always wanted to run at least one Marathon in my life. I secured my place for the London Marathon in the official ballot and it was fifth time lucky, so I relished the challenge and was really excited by the news! I have done four half marathons before, but never a full marathon so this is a real challenge and now it’s getting closer I am actually quite nervous about it.

I decided to use my ballot place to support a local charity, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity.

Why I am running for Rainbow Trust

I felt that it was really important to choose a charity that I feel strongly about and as I’ve recently set up First Hand Recruitment in the Mole Valley area, it was important to me to support and promote a local charity that does not have the level of profile that larger charities have.

Rainbow Trust provides emotional and practical support to families who have a seriously ill child. The bespoke service it provides to over 2,000 families is almost entirely funded by donations, so without having runners in events like the London Marathon, it would really struggle to raise enough funds to carry on its support.

How you can help me to fund a year’s support for a family

Crossing the finish line will be a huge relief. All the effort, hours on the road and treadmill and countless social media updates will be done and it will feel amazing to know that I have raised money for a charity that does some truly amazing things to improve the lives of seriously ill children and their families.

I am hoping to raise £2,000 for Rainbow Trust, which will more than cover the cost of support for one family for a year (it costs the charity £1,690). If you would like to sponsor me, you can donate online at www.virginmoneygiving.com/AndrewDunne
