Running the Gauntlet to avoid the Shark Tank

Running the Gauntlet to avoid the Shark Tank

Puerto Morelos, Mexico

“Do not look right or left. Continue straight ahead and out of the building. Stop and talk at your peril!!”

?

If you’ve never visited Cancun before, you will be struck with the full force of selling in your face like few other places. Certainly nothing like it exists in Canada or the US.?

?

After you get through customs and baggage claim, then make it past the sniffer dogs, you’ve got to “run the gauntlet” of aggressive sales people pushing transportation and excursions, most with the disguised attempt to place you later that week under the spell of multiple “consultants” to get you to buy a timeshare at their resort.

?

Interesting how this backwater, low-lying mangrove “swamp” coastal area has morphed into a tourism mega-destination with over 6 million visitors a year.?

?

Maybe it was the 1970,?Mexican government decision to pick Cancun, as a potential tourist mecca. With the construction of an international airport and the Hotel Zone, people began to flock to the golden beaches and sparkling turquoise waters off the area’s shores.?

?

Or maybe it was the 1994 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue that tipped the scales.

?

That issue was shot across various locations in Cancun, capturing the essence of its sandy beaches, swaying palm trees, and breathtaking sunsets. With their captivating poses and radiant smiles, Kathy Ireland, Rachel Hunter, and Elle Macpherson lit up the pages of the magazine like the Mexican sun itself.

?

We’re here to attend a conference with my business coaching peers at one of the many spectacular resorts, 40 minutes south of the airport.?

?

This resort too, has its “shark tank” room full of hopeful salespeople and glaze-eyed tourists.

?

I am not huge fan of this particular method of selling. One thing though is particularly relevant for you as a business owner. A point that was highlighted at the beginning of our conference.

?

There are two key rules for a business:

  1. Get Clients (customers, patients etc)
  2. Keep Clients

If you don’t do these two things – you have no business – period!

?

With these two rules, you can simplify how you manage and improve your company with two simple questions regarding any and all of your expenditures.

  • Does that get you clients?
  • Does that keep you clients?

If no – eliminate the expense, pronto. If you’re not sure – ask an expert.?

?

This is exactly why I created RealBusinessMastery.com, where members get access 24/7 to all the foundational and strategic business building training, plus real examples from over 140 different industries, so you can get more clients and keep the clients you have.
