Running every day for Macmillan

Running every day for Macmillan

Aisling Burke,?Talent Acquisition Partner?is counting down the days to Christmas by racking up the km for Macmillan.?You can?donate to Aisling’s fundraising page here.?

On 1 November, Aisling committed to running 5km every day until Christmas – which will total a whopping 275km over 55 days.???

After attending a Macmillan at Work training workshop along with 14 other representatives across S+G, Aisling was inspired to take action.??

She says, “It was alarming to reflect on how cancer impacts all of us; those who are diagnosed and those who support the diagnosed.?

My dad has overcome a?tough few years?with his health, particularly with cancer. He is one of the success stories, but he didn’t get an easy ride. He was surrounded by sick people like himself but being a positive person, offered his support to fellow patients and had an upbeat attitude throughout.”?

With a running playlist of Bruce Springsteen and Dolly Parton set on repeat, Aisling is confident that she’ll complete the challenge, even if it means navigating family get togethers?(and the fizz and food that comes with them).?

Aisling adds: “By Christmas I hope to have achieved over 300km in distance, and over £500 in sponsorship for Macmillan. It means I can’t miss one day but anything is possible when you’re passionate about helping others.”?

S+G are committed to making Macmillan cancer information more accessible?and offering support to people affected by?cancer?in the workplace. We’re also working to?improve confidence in line managers so they’re able to provide the right level of support to our employees.?

By introducing Macmillan at?Work, we aim to:?

  • Develop guidelines for a clear communication plan between the affected employee and their manager.?
  • Review current policies and procedures for people directly affected by cancer.?
  • Ensure support for carers is in place, and line managers are aware of what they can do to support.?

Maria?Repanos, Principal Lawyer in Clin Neg and?lead on Macmillan at Work programme?says of Aisling’s fundraising: “This is an incredibly important cause and we would encourage all colleagues to support Aisling’s tremendous efforts.??

We are always seeking ways to support our customers, colleagues and their families who suffer from cancer. Macmillan are?the?UK’s leading expert on cancer and provide vital research in relation to this disease as well as emotional, physical and financial support from the point of diagnosis.??
