Running for a Cause: Virginia Sutler's Journey with St. Jude
Student Transportation of America
An industry leader in school transportation and fleet services, founded on family, community, and a safety-first mindset
At STA, we pride ourselves on being more than just a transportation company—we’re a family deeply rooted in the communities we serve. Through our employee giving program, Driving for a Cure, we’ve proudly supported St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. One of our Regional St. Jude Coordinators, Virginia Sutler from the Southeast region, is taking this commitment a step further by participating in the St. Jude Marathon this year. Her journey is one of dedication, heart, and an unshakable desire to help children in need.?
?
A Visit that Changed Everything?
For Virginia, her connection to St. Jude began during a visit to the hospital in May. That experience had a profound impact on her:?
?
"Seeing these brave children, some of whom cannot run or play, made me want to do more. I knew I could push myself to run for them. If they can face the unimaginable every day, then I can certainly find the strength to run."?
?
Her compassion for the kids battling cancer is what fuels her drive to make a difference. Inspired by the mission of St. Jude, Virginia's participation in the marathon isn’t just about running—it’s about giving back to a cause that touches countless lives.?
?
The Mission of St. Jude: A Personal Calling?
St. Jude’s mission is one that resonates deeply with Virginia.?
?
"One man’s vision to help all children with cancer find a cure has become a global movement. The increase in survival rates today motivates me to help in any way I can. It's proof that progress is possible, and I want to be part of that progress."?
?
For Virginia, participating in this marathon is not only a chance to make a difference—it’s a way to honor the spirit of perseverance and hope that St. Jude represents.?
?
Training Through Life’s Hurdles?
Balancing the life of a General Manager at STA is no easy feat, especially when preparing for a marathon. But for Virginia, running has always been a part of her life. With heart disease running in her family, staying fit is more than a choice; it's a necessity.?
?
"I run mostly on Saturdays since my weekdays are packed, especially with school back in session. While it’s difficult to stick to a schedule, I know I’ll be ready to finish the race. Running keeps me grounded and healthy."?
For Virginia, staying active isn’t just about physical fitness—it’s a way to ensure she’s doing all she can to stay healthy and energized for her demanding role at STA.?
?
"Just Do It!"?
When asked what advice she’d give to anyone interested in running for a cause, Virginia’s message is simple: "Just do it!"?
?
Whether it's taking that first step in training or finding a cause that means something to you, she believes in the power of action. By running for St. Jude, Virginia hopes her journey will inspire others in the company and community to get involved and make a difference.?
?
A Personal Connection?
Virginia’s dedication to St. Jude is also deeply personal. She shared the heartbreaking story of her daughter's boyfriend, whose brother frequently visited St. Jude for treatment before passing away at just 17 years old.?
?
"That’s when I truly learned about the incredible work St. Jude does for families. They provide more than just medical care—they offer hope."?
?
Her participation in the marathon is not only in honor of those she’s met but also in memory of those who have fought bravely against cancer.?
?
Inspiring a Community?
Through her involvement in the St. Jude Marathon, Virginia hopes to inspire not only her colleagues at STA but also the wider community.?
?
"I hope my participation encourages others to get involved, whether it’s through running, donating, or simply spreading awareness. Together, we can make a difference for these children and their families."?
?
As Virginia prepares for the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend, she’s driven by a singular mission—to help children and families facing one of life’s most difficult challenges. At STA, we’re proud to support Virginia and all of our team members who are contributing to this important cause.?
?
Virginia, thank you for all that you do. Your dedication reminds us why Driving for a Cure and supporting St. Jude is so important. Together, we can help ensure that no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food—so they can focus on what truly matters: helping their child live.?
