• Studied law at University, before transferring to a business degree, then started working in recruitment

• Moving over to Australia at 26 years old, from Manchester, being a semi-expert in his space, to back to ground zero and being a beginner, being a frustrating experience

• Being in expat circles, and Sydney feeling like London with better weather

• The rose tinted glasses of setting up your own agency vs being an employee

• Most good recruiters would not fail being solo, but it is scaling that is hard

• Having more pressure on your shoulders when you are a Co-Owner, having everyone’s livelihoods in your hands

• Used to tell doctors to work less hours per 14 day placement, now people want more work-life balance

• Managing growth, but at a steady and sustainable pace, doing $45 million in revenue this year, focusing on gross profit, and not just top line revenue

• Staff shortages, causing a chicken and egg situation, juniors cannot work without seniors and vice versa

• The domestic and international competition for doctors, and the time required to be a doctor, with 12-18 years needed to produce a senior specialist doctor, looking 10-40 years ahead to encourage junior doctors to enter

• Bringing in doctors from overseas takes 6-12 months, and it is still an international competition, and the need for background safety and checks

• Challenges for entrepreneurs is getting hold of skilled staff, following the immigration challenges, and the training levy being applied to people even if not hired

• Why he would reconsider going to University, as it gets people out of their home, and makes you grow up, but he sees less validity and value compared to in the past

• Getting the right people on board, and seeing them happy, making recruiters feel part of the journey, and not part of a production line
