Another three-week gap between updates, but at least my shareholders have received more frequent communications!
As you will probably have guessed from the absence of updates, this has been a crazy busy time for me. Dynamic Kate has run twice, Sajwaan has run again and was then retired, I bought a new horse called Stryder, I have shareholder settlement and renewals galore to process and all sorts of other stuff going on. In a weird way, it has actually all been quite good fun and I would rather be busy than sat with nothing to do, but it has been impossible to turn everything around as quickly as I would have liked to and a lot of prioritisation has been going on.
Dynamic Kate
Kate ran at Worcester at the start of September and she was third. She was carrying a big weight on a hot day and the ground was perhaps a little softer than ideal, so it was a very creditable performance. She ran again this week back at the same course in a better race where she finished 5th. No excuses, as on another day she might have won, she ran well and was right there with a chance at the last.
There is a possible race for Dynamic Kate at Bangor at the start of October (4th) but her participation will depend on how quickly she bounces back from her latest run and also whether the ground is suitable.
Sajwaan
Unfortunately, Sajwaan ran yet another poor race at Lingfield and with no suitable races and not much else left to try, we decided that the time had come to pull the plug. This meant that there were fees to be rebated to the shareholders with three months of training not required and we received a small sale fee for him having sold him on outside racing.
It was a shame that things did not work out, but it would seem that Sajwaan learned that he could be more comfortable and that caused him to not want to do the thing (racing) that he probably associated with the discomfort in the first place.
Bella Cavalla
Bella Cavalla continues to canter away at Neil Mulholland’s yard and I have seen her a couple of times recently.
She looks in good order and is progressing towards a late October or November debut. We are still not sure if we will start her in a national hunt flat race or a novice hurdle and her faster work will tell us more on that front when she builds up to that.
As mentioned here in the past, I have shares available with 2% for £750. Please get in touch if you are interested.
Stryder
Another new horse for BG Racing to replace Sajwaan.
We purchased Stryder for just over £8,000 at the Tattersalls sale at the end of August. He is a three-year-old gelding previously with Ed Walker and is in training for BG Racing with Michael Attwater on Epsom Downs.
Having had three runs to get a handicap mark, Stryder was 5th on his handicap debut at Lingfield. A deeper look at the form reveals that the odds on favourite won well by 3 lengths leaving Stryder right in the mix for 2nd. His racing post ratings for his last three races have been 50, 58 and then 60 showing that he is improving with each race and his handicap mark of 58 should mean that he can be competitive quite quickly.

Stryder was sired by Oasis Dream who is Europe’s leading Group 1 sprint sire and his dam was twice placed in listed company. The dam has had four foals who have raced and Stryder is the only one yet to win a race so the breeding is very solid. Oasis Dream had a stud fee of £30,000 when Stryder was foaled and he was bought back at £40,000 when he went to the sales as a yearling, so he seems good value at just over £8,000 just two years later.
Shareholding costs are £830 for 2%, £1925 for 5% and £3550 for 10% and cover a year to 31st August 2024. Installment payments are fine, so people can pay monthly if this suits them better.
Styrder is really working well at Michael’s and he is still a big baby so there should be loads of improvement to come. He is booked to debut for BG Racing at Wolverhampton on 9th October.
Inside The Rails
Our September podcast saw us interview Jimmy George from Tattersalls and was a great look behind the scenes at the bloodstock sales. We just recorded our October episode which will be out on the 1st.
You can listen by going to any podcast app or music streaming service (such as Spotify or Amazon Music) and searching for Inside The Rails.
Winners From Our Stables
Neil Mulholland had a win from Any News at the start of September.
He had another winner on the 10th when Watergrange Jack won at Fontwell and a win double on the 12th when Glajou and Emanate won at Worcester.
Michael Attwater also had a winner when Concierge won at Bath on Monday.
