Runner's Knee
Repetitive Stress injury around the knee is a common spirit dampener for beginners as well as seasoned professionals as it impacts professional performance and fitness goals.
One such condition is Chondromalacia Patella (softening of cartilage underneath the knee cap) the most common diagnosis which falls under the gamut of Runner’s Knee.
When structural causes of patellofemoral pain(pain in front of knee) like malalignment and patellofemoral arthritis are ruled out,the most common culprit is weak inner quadriceps(Vastus medialis obliqus or VMO muscle),weak gluteal muscles(muscle group in back of hip) and /or tight hamstrings(muscle group in back of thigh)
In such cases appropriate strength training of these group of muscles (VMO/gluteal muscle) solves issue in majority of runners.
Adequate stretching of all muscle groups is a must before you start your run.
