Run Your Own Career Race
When you're starting out, it's easy to get caught up in the race and think that you should be doing something else or be like someone else. You might feel like no one is paying attention to your efforts, or that they don't matter as much as they should. But here's the thing: only you can decide what's best for your career path.
You may use a mentor, an advisor or even someone who is willing to listen when you ask for advice on how to better run your career race but finally you need to make the final decision.
Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone.
You should always strive to improve your skills and learn new things. This means taking on more responsibilities and pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone. You don't want to be stuck in the same job for years, so it's important that you're constantly challenging yourself and growing as a professional.
What are some ways that you can grow? Try taking on new projects within your company, or learning something new outside of work hours (such as volunteering at a soup kitchen). If you fail, remember: it's better to fail fast than succeed slowly! Also make sure that you have mentors in your life who will help guide you through difficult times when things may not go according to plan.
When building relationships with others at work, don't forget about building relationships outside of work as well! It's important for everyone on the team—not just managers—to get along well enough so there aren't any issues later down the road when working together becomes stressful or competitive instead of collaborative."
Stay Motivated And Balanced With Physical Activity.
The definition of physical activity is any movement that gets your heart rate up and burns calories. If you're just starting out, walking is a great place to start. It's easy to incorporate into your day and can be done anywhere, anytime. When you get in the habit of moving more during your day, it'll become part of who you are—and that's going to help keep you motivated to do even more!
Physical activity has been proven time and again to benefit mental health in many ways: it helps manage stress levels by releasing endorphins into the bloodstream; it promotes relaxation through deep breathing exercises; it provides an outlet for emotions through physical exertion (i.e., running).
In short: exercising gives us a sense of control over ourselves and our lives—and since we all know how hard life can be sometimes (even if we don't want to admit that), this feeling of control can help us feel happier overall.
Don’t Compare Yourself To Others.
In a world where there are so many different paths to success, it's easy to compare yourself to others and feel like you're coming up short. But comparing yourself can be a healthy way to find motivation. As long as you are doing your best, there's no reason not to compare yourself with someone who is also trying their best!
For example, if one friend is an amazing athlete and another friend has perfect penmanship, you might think that they're so much more talented than you in those specific areas. But what if neither of them are good at anything else? In that case it looks like they got lucky in two very specific situations rather than being naturally talented all around (maybe they just practiced writing their name more often).
It’s tempting when things aren’t going well for us personally, or professionally—when we feel unappreciated at work or unhappy with our current job situation—to look externally for answers rather than turning within ourselves first. We ask ourselves what other people would do instead of asking ourselves how far along we've gotten on our own path toward success.
Manage Your Stress And Energy Levels
There are many ways to manage stress, such as:
- Exercise regularly. Physical activity helps relieve tension and stress by releasing endorphins into your body and brain—the so-called “feel good” chemicals that make you feel happier!
- Meditation and yoga. The mind-body-spirit connection is essential to self-care, so take time each day to meditate or practice yoga. That way you can clear your mind, get centered and be more present in the moment.
- Get adequate sleep every night (7–9 hours). Sleep is needed for mental clarity, memory retention, creativity and problem solving skills, as well as emotional regulation and self-control during times of high stress levels such as during exams or job interviews etc.. Avoid caffeine late at night since it has been proven that it can interfere with sleep quality.
- If necessary consider taking a non-habit forming herbal supplement before bedtime such as valerian root extract which has been shown effective at promoting relaxation without causing drowsiness like prescription drugs do when taken regularly over several weeks' time due to tolerance build up issues.
Learn To Say “NO” To Things That Don’t Align With You
- "NO" is a powerful word.
- You can use it to say ‘NO’ to things that don’t fit into your schedule, like extra projects at work or networking events that don't align with your goals.
- Saying no also means you can be open to new opportunities and ideas that fit with who you are and what matters most to you.
Your career goals are yours and only yours, so learn to let other people run their race and focus on your own progress.
The biggest mistake you can make in your career is comparing yourself to others. There's no need to compare yourself with those who are further along in their careers than you, or even peers who have different goals and aspirations than yours.
Don't worry about what other people are doing—only focus on what's important for you and your growth as a professional!
The only person who knows what you want to achieve, and how far away your career goals may be is...you! Your journey is unique and special, so don't let anyone else ruin it for you by making comparisons or telling stories about how great their life was.
Remember! Do not compare your beginning with someone else's middle!
