The Rule that Turns Fear to Freedom!

The Rule that Turns Fear to Freedom!

We recently had the privilege of spending time with Brian Smith, the Founder of UGG Boots. His story isn’t just about building a globally recognized brand—it’s about courage, persistence, and the willingness to learn, even when it’s uncomfortable.

What struck us most about Brian wasn’t just his success, but his mindset. He understood something that most people struggle with:

?? You don’t have to be fearless all the time. ?? You don’t have to feel ready before you take action. ?? You just need the rule that turns fear to freedom.

The Freedom Rule: A Game-Changer for Success

Think about it, it only takes a moment: ? Say yes to an opportunity that scares you. ? Speak up in a meeting. ? Introduce yourself to someone new. ? Send that message, make that call, or take that leap.

Most of the things we fear take less than a minute to do. But we spend days, weeks, even years avoiding them. If you believe you are courageous, fear loses its grip, and momentum takes over.

Fear is a Door, NOT a Wall

We often see fear as a stop sign, but what if it’s actually a signpost—guiding you toward your next level of growth?

Fear usually shows up when we’re about to step into something bigger. It’s that moment before confidence appears, daring us to move forward.

But here’s the part most people don’t realize: ?? You don’t need confidence first. Confidence follows action. ?? You don’t need success first. Success follows courage.

Take the action, and the belief will catch up.

How NLP Helps You Rewire Fear and Step into Success

This is where Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) comes in. NLP isn’t just about words—it’s about how your brain processes fear, success, and self-belief.

?? Your brain is wired for patterns—it follows the thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors you repeat most. ?? If fear has been your default response, your brain will keep choosing it—until you decide to walk through the door. ?? Knowing how to use NLP, and consistent brain training interrupts your fear-based thinking and replaces it with empowering action.

Three Simple Ways to Overcome Fear, Starting Today

If fear has been holding you back, here’s what to do right now, and here's the thing, if you are not achieving the success that you want then fear is that the core of it.

1.??? Name It – What exactly are you afraid of? Say it out loud or write it down. Fear thrives in the unknown. Clarity weakens it.

2.??? Shrink It – Ask yourself: What’s the absolute worst that could happen? Most of the time, fear is exaggerated in your mind.

3.??? Take One Brave Step – Be courageous today. Whatever action you’ve been avoiding—just do it.

?? Courage isn’t about never feeling fear. It’s about acting despite it.

Surround Yourself with the Right People

One of the biggest lessons we've learned from meeting and interviewing A-list professionals, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders is this:

Success is influenced by who you spend time with.

Spending time with Brian Smith, George Ross, and other high-level thinkers has reinforced the importance of being in the right conversations. And I know we've said this before, but repetition is the architect of belief. Every thought you repeat, every affirmation you reinforce, and every action you take builds a deeper pathway in your brain. The more you repeat a belief—whether empowering or limiting—the more your brain accepts it as truth. The key to M.O.R.E? Consciously choose the thoughts you want to reinforce. Repetition rewires your brain, shifting your mindset from doubt to confidence, from fear to freedom, and from limitation to limitless potential

When you’re surrounded by people who think bigger, you start thinking bigger too.

Right now, pick one thing that fear has been holding you back from.

DECIDE to open the door and take that brave step!

You don’t have to be fearless. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to be brave for a moment—and that moment could change everything.

Are you curious to what The Rule is yet?

Drop a comment below: What’s one fear you’re ready to push through? Let’s start the conversation. ?? I have always been the person who starts the dancing—the one who takes the first step. But there was one moment that truly proved the power stepping up, not just for myself, but for others.

I was at an exclusive 3-day Personal Development Workshop in Sydney, surrounded by 25 participants, each there to stretch and grow to be their best self. One of the coaches, a globally recognized success speaker, shared a powerful story about a little boy. Something about her words hit me deep, stirring emotions I hadn’t expected.

When she finished, she walked straight over to me, handed me the microphone, and said, "Tell your story."

I froze. "No, no, I couldn’t do that." "Yes, you can." She stood there, waiting.

In a moment, my mind raced. I came here to play full out. If I tell my story, maybe someone else will find the courage to tell theirs.

So, I took the microphone, stood up, and shared the most traumatic event of my life. The room fell silent. Not a dry eye in sight.

The coach, cool as ever, simply turned to the group and said:

"This is why Susan does what she does. This one event in her life has been the driver for the rest of her life. Who’s next?"

A man in the room hesitated. (let's call him Ed) Then, shy and unsure, he stood up and shared his story—for the first time ever in public.

That moment changed him. Today, he’s a 7-figure earner, speaking on stages across the world.

It only takes one moment of courage to shift the course of your life.

You never know what impact you can have on another when you share a story, comment on a post, start a conversation or reply to question: take a brave step today!

And the rule that turns fear to freedom: 20 SECONDS OF INSANE COURAGE! It took me 20 seconds of insane courage to tell my story it took Ed 20 seconds of insane courage to tell his story. What are you going to do today that will exercise the rule of 20 seconds of insane courage?

It is a personal thing but as I said in the article, Name the fear... and then take one brave step: tiny, small, big or bigger, the size of the step doesn't matter, it is just in taking that one step... and then the next one... and the next one... and the more steps you take forward the stronger you become, the more confident you feel and better results you get. Easy peasy right? ????

Great read! The story of Brian Smith and UGG Boots was a powerful reminder that success often comes from persistence and embracing discomfort. I especially loved the idea that sometimes all it takes is 20 seconds of insane courage to break through fear and take action. In your experience ??Susan Sheehan ?? what is one small but powerful shift someone can make in those 20 seconds to move from fear to freedom?
