If you hire for everything, you hire for nothing.

Most job ads are far too long—they hit you with a shopping list of every marketing task you could imagine.

Something like this ??

This doesn’t attract A-Players, it makes them think…

?? These guys don’t know what they want

?? No one can realistically do all this

?? If they want one person to do this, they have ZERO resources


Instead of a long list of general tasks, list THREE GOALS CANDIDATE NEEDS TO ACHIEVE.?

And then, in your job spec, tell candidates success will be defined by how well you deliver these goals.

?Let me give an example?

?

We are currently hiring for a Head of Creative. These are the three main KPIs the candidate will be judged on:


1. Make sure all content is INCREDIBLE?

2. Manage the team so they are all happy?

3. Build a scalable delivery and hiring process

?

If the role is more junior, you can be even more specific—we are also recruiting for a content writer, and the rule of three looks like this…


1. Double organic traffic for new and optimised articles?

2. Conversions from sales articles?

3. Quality of content as determined by the head of marketing


??So ask yourself the difficult question — what are the MOST IMPORTANT things this person will achieve?
