Rugby Union Heineken Cup final
If the tackle contest/breakdown/ruck, call it what you will, continues to be refereed as Jaco Peyper did, then World rugby will have a bigger problem on its hands than a concussion and tackle height. The aforementioned will become to rugby what UFC is to boxing.
A few seasons ago referees were quick to penalise ruck infringements. Initially, there were lots of offences, then quick ball became common.
On Saturday Jaco seemed bewildered at the mayhem going on around him, then he remembered he was the referee.
World Cup coaches will be analysing referee appointments as we speak. Leinster and La Rochelle had both done their homework on him and the mayhem ensued.
In between, when ruck ball was quickly won the final was a spectacle to watch.
More on the subject of refereeing when I publish my World Cup article shortly.

1 年If they'd made the picture grainy I'd have sworn it was the 80's. It almost needed a fight to breakout just to stop the game. Leinster were irresponsible in my opinion, laws are there for players to adhere to not for refs to apply. The first responsibility is on the player and professionals have no excuse for ignoring the laws. In my opinion there is too much emphasis on 'playing on the edge' and playing the referee.
