Rudyard Kipling’s mopa mopa casket
The culmination of a wonderful collaborative project between the Victoria and Albert Museum and the National Trust , this article provides details on the scientific analysis of a barniz brillante casket which is normally housed at Bateman’s, Rudyard and Caroline Kipling’s home in Sussex:
The article is available open access in both English ?and Spanish in our Heritage MDPI special issue Lacquer in the Americas .
The analysis work was possible thanks to the refurbishment and upgrade of the Science Lab at the V&A, funded by the UKRI /AHRC . The V&A was able to provide extensive access to its equipment and staff expertise so that this National Trust treasure could be investigated, and the results disseminated widely.
A big thank you to my co-authors Ludovico Geminiani , Maria Sanchez Carvajal, Emma Schmuecker , Megan Wheeler , Dana Melchar and Valentina Risdonne , and to all others who facilitated the temporary move of the casket to the V&A ( Marina Rossi and Alex P. ).
