This rating was given in February of 2024 and was based on survey results in the 2023 calendar year. The rating was created and tabulated by Investment News. RTD did not pay to be included in this rating.

Employers, Automatic Enrollment is Coming!

Another SECURE 2.0 provision will be implemented as of the 2025 plan year, where all plans established after December 28, 2022 will be required to add automatic enrollment to their plan provisions. Now is the time for Plan Sponsors to consider whether their plan will be affected by this change and how to communicate these changes with employees.

Plan administrators will need to amend the plan documents to incorporate these provisions as well as draft required notices and incorporate these notices in the annual notice distribution process. Some of the specific features include:?

  • Automatic Enrollment Feature of at least 3% but not more than 10%
  • The default rate must then increase by 1% each year thereafter until reaching at least 10%
  • However, auto escalation may be avoided by setting the initial default contribution percentage at 10%

Automatic enrollment allows for employees to opt out of contributing to the plan but action must be taken on the employee's part. Typical opt out rates are less than 10%, meaning that more people will save for retirement with automatic enrollment being added to retirement plans.
