New Fellows induction 2024

On Tuesday 4 June, the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE), Scotland’s National Academy, held an admission ceremony for its 57 new Fellows from the arts, business, public service, civil society, and academia in Scotland and beyond.

Nominated for their individual excellence in a wide range of fields such as physics, chemistry, informatics, literature, law, social sciences, and business, they joined the 1,800 current Fellows of the RSE.

His Majesty King Charles III confirms patronage of the Royal Society of Edinburgh

The Royal Household has announced that His Majesty King Charles III has accepted the patronage of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

President of the RSE, Professor Sir John Ball, welcomed the news:

"I am deeply honoured that His Majesty King Charles III has accepted the patronage of the Society. This represents the next stage of an enduring relationship, and I would like to thank His Majesty for his ongoing support and commitment to endeavours that promote science, education, and cultural advancement. I look forward to working with him and welcoming him to the RSE in the future.”

Criminal justice in crisis

Improving menstrual health education in schools

Dr Laura Forrest, RSE Personal Research Fellowship awardee case study

Dr Forrest, Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of the West of Scotland, was awarded an RSE Personal Research Fellowship to further her project,?The menstrual health education in schools’ study: developing a school-based menstrual health education programme.

Queer futures: alternative models for social justice

Professor Yvette Taylor, RSE Personal Research Fellowship awardee case study

Professor Yvette Taylor, Professor of Education at the University of Strathclyde, was awarded an RSE Personal Research Fellowship to develop the project Queer futures: alternative models for social justice, an investigation into what LGBTQ+ life, or ways of living more queerly, can tell us about social justice.

Qualitative researcher vacancy

The RSE is looking for a Qualitative Researcher with excellent research and writing skills, as well as a background and interest in Scottish relations across Africa. This position would be suited to a first —or second-year PhD Student, but we welcome applications from anyone who feels they meet the criteria below.?

  • Either full-time (35 hours/week) fixed term of up to eight weeks, or part-time over several months, to be agreed with the applicant upon appointment??
