RS Round-Up 8th August: Updates from Cyprus, our dedication to lifelong learning and how we are using AI to synthesise volunteer feedback!
Refugee Support Europe
We want a world where all refugees can lead their lives with dignity
We hope you are having a great start to the week, as we bring you updates from our Dignity Centre in Nicosia, share our dedication to lifelong learning and how we are using AI to synthesise volunteers' feedback!
Cyprus
Last week, over at our Dignity Centre in Nicosia, Cyprus, the weekly barber service was in full swing. A hair cut and a bit of pampering can make all the difference to how you feel about yourself. The weekly barber service is provided by skilled members of the refugee community, who receive fair pay for their work.

Continued learning
As a dynamic organisation dedicated to lifelong learning, we were excited to have two of our Senior Coordinators, Paula and Summer, participate in an industry-leading?humanitarian leadership training programme,?as part of an ongoing collaboration with our funding partner Action Against Hunger (AAH).
Reflecting on the experience, Paula said:
'It was great to learn from experienced leaders who have a wealth of knowledge working in the sector. They shared some really useful advice and insight that, once implemented, will serve our stakeholders well and enhance the quality of our work and services.'

We are grateful to Acción contra el Hambre Espa?a for inviting us and covering the costs of the training, and for the opportunity to continue developing our humanitarian leadership skills in a formal setting alongside local and international peers and experts.
Using AI To Synthesise Our Volunteers’ Feedback
We have been experimenting with AI to figure out how we can use this emerging tool to help us achieve our goals without compromising our values. We recently used AI to help to systematically and objectively work through the feedback of over 120 volunteers to tell us the themes returning volunteers raised.
Apart from confirming something we already knew (that volunteering is an incredibly positive experience), it did a great job of pulling out the main themes. Many expressed high satisfaction with their volunteering and mentioned enjoying the work, meeting amazing people and feeling a sense of fulfilment. To read about our findings in full, head over to our website!
Would you like to experience the same? We can guarantee you won’t regret it. You can?start the process here. Or if you'd like more information you could always?read volunteers’ own stories here?and listen to what they say on our?Selfish Altruist podcast.
