Refugee Support Europe
We want a world where all refugees can lead their lives with dignity
As Monday gets underway we bring you news from our activities over the last week, including how we are responding to the arrival of the Bibby Stockholm barge in Dorset, UK, Isobel shares her experience of volunteering with us in Cyprus and one of our volunteer ambassadors Gerry has done a fantastic sponsored walk with his local community!
News from the UK
Last Tuesday, the Bibby Stockholm barge arrived in Portland, Dorset. We were there all day and have already begun to understand how we can best help.
While we strongly condemn the use of the barge and all it stands for in terms of a grim and imposing representation of the UK's hostile environment, we know that we can showcase our unique approach and bring dignity to this sad situation.
Thanks to our proven experience in providing such support quickly, dynamically and with dignity, we'll be working closely with Dorset Council and will set up operations directly adjacent to the barge.
Stay tuned to find out how you can help. Over the coming days and weeks we'll be sharing all the ways you can join us in showing solidarity with refugees while standing against the government's inhumane policies.
Cyprus: Isobel's volunteering experience
In June this year, Isobel volunteered with us at our Dignity Centre in Nicosia, Cyprus. In this piece Isobel reflects on her volunteering experience and the role that the Dignity Centre plays in the community.
"As the weeks go on, I understand the Centre to be a symbol of hope within the community—problems, although not always able to be solved right away, are tackled with patience and huge effort."

Gerry’s sponsored walk
Gerry Clancy is a?Volunteer Ambassador?and one of our most successful and consistent fundraisers. He recently organised a sponsored walk through the beautiful scenery of County Limerick.
A group of 40 of Gerry’s friends, colleagues, neighbours and acquaintances hiked up to the region’s highest point, to be rewarded with beautiful sunset views. Some walkers travelled 60 km to take part, and one person even walked a similar route in Fife Scotland, at the same time, in solidarity with the group!
Despite the cost of living crisis and the financial pressure that so many people are feeling, the community raised over €5,000 from businesses and individual donations.
If you’d like to host a sponsored event to raise funds, just email our lovely?Fundraising Manager, Natalie, who can provide any support and advice you might need.?
