???The ongoing evolution & future of Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM)
?Where do you think RPM is headed?

???Evolution of Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) - A brief history of the RPM system
?? Pre-RPM
1905: Heart Sound Transmission from a hospital to Willem Einthoven's?laboratory using the telephone.
1910: ECGs transmission through cables from the wards to the ECG room. Stethoscope sounds from a patient held miles away and arrive for doctors to listen and arrive at an accurate remote diagnosis.?
1920: The Haukeland Hospital in Norway used two-way radio communication to connect physicians with ships and enable the medical treatment of seafarers.
1924: A speculative cover of Radio News magazine showed the use of the radio for medical consultation.
?? DIY-RPM
1948: Technology advanced and one doctor sent X-ray images over telephone wires to another doctor in Pennsylvania.
1959: Neurological exams are now being electronically transmitted for consultation.
1960: Psychiatric consultations are now being transmitted by closed-circuit television.
1961: A primitive EKG, a respiration sensor in his microphone, and a thermometer. Alan Shepard flew the NASA spacecraft Freedom 7.
1967: EKGs transmitted over telephone wires by physicians.

1970 - 1977: Remote monitoring program, called the Papago Indian Reservation in Arizona, was developed and sponsored by Kaiser Foundation and Lockheed.
1980: X-ray image transmission became routine.
1990: The internet development and explosion left old-school telemedicine behind.?
?? DHD-RPM
2000: When broadband infrastructure became available, telemedicine started to take off.?
2017: New Reimbursement for Remote Patient Monitoring and Telemedicine. CMS announced significant changes to Medicare reimbursement for remote patient monitoring and telemedicine that helped accelerate the adoption and use of these digital health tools.
2020: Insider Intelligence survey showed that 23.4 U.S. patients used RPM. The University of Pittsburgh used RPM to reduce hospital readmission.

?? Digital Health Devices (DHDs) are necessary to support a Hospital @ Home (H@H).
?? DHDs are classified according to different healthcare-related domains that determine the possible services a device can engage and participate in:?
??? Activity
????Health
??? Nutrition
??? Ambiance
??? Device-monitoring
Device-monitoring domain is subclassified according to a device type:
??? Active?or?passive
??? Contact?or?non-contact
??? Invasive?or?non-invasive
??? Physical?or Virtual
??? Mobile or Stationary
Also, DHDs are classified with respect to data dimensions, end-users, and capabilities.
