Building a career in RPA? Nothing wrong with that, that's what I did, 35 years ago in UI automation of all-kinds. But I have noticed recently that a larger and larger number of people have been betting their careers and training on just one or two "hot" technologies. Having the same few skills, even in hot-markets, that everyone else has weakens that persons competitiveness and risks stalling their own careers too early.
But it's not too late. The smart individuals I have seen and worked with over all these years, that became the most successful long term, doing what they love, we're the ones that did not stop learning. They are the ones that always went above and beyond to garner new skills which made them highly competitive and sought after. So, this post, is hopefully not too biased to my company and I do hope, it might impact perhaps a few of you, who might be thinking, how do I stop myself becoming a robot, like everyone else!
By not continually learning it is pretty clear that you are leaving large swathes of your near-term and future career opportunities on the table. Go beyond learning one-or two things just because they are hot.
Can you risk that in todays fast evolving transformational world? Newer and greater intelligent automation technologies are evolving faster than ever so do you have what it takes to keep up and learn at this pace? Do you want to learn the right skills that make you more valuable in this ever rapidly changing market? Make you different? Do you want to open up your future to bigger and better things? The opportunity to do that opened up when Pega announced free training across its entire product line, not just it's RPA.

5 年Great article - I completely agree with your POV - betting one the buzzword technology of the day is not clever - it might get big but then again your life is not a lotto ticket

5 年Once again a great stuff, Franc. Incidentally while I was delivering a speech on Intelligent Automation Continuum (IAC) at a Product School City Event, last weekend - I talked about a different perspective about "Workforce transformation and Employee Engagement", that can be made possible by IAC. For example a PMO analyst can become a process consultant/automation consultant by up-skilling and re-skilling to these kind of new age technologies/platforms. This would be a phenomenal career growth for a PMO Analyst likewise for so many other role players in an organization. I am sure Pega Academy initiatives will make these possible and transform workplaces and improve employee engagement. All the very best to you and your teams.
