On December 6th, around 100 Croucher scholars and invited guests gathered for the 2024 Croucher Symposium in the serene surroundings of the Asia Society. Bringing together current scholars and other awardees from around the world, this interdisciplinary event looked at cross-cutting topics such as “Science for society,” “Open Science,” and “Inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers.”
The highly interactive programme also featured a talk on the science of mindfulness by Dr Savio Wong and a “fireside chat” with Dame Julie Maxton, Chief Executive of The Royal Society. Other distinguished figures who gave the benefit of their wisdom included Professor Kathryn Cheah and Dr Emily Chenette.
Croucher Fellow Dr Richard Tse commented, "The Croucher Symposium offered a fantastic platform for networking with new scholars and fellows, as well as reconnecting with old friends. The talks were fascinating, exploring broader themes such as the importance of open sciences and how to inspire future scientists. This allows Croucher scholars and fellows with different research backgrounds to benefit greatly from the talks and discussions.”
He added, “I was also honoured to share my experience with the Todd-Croucher Junior Research Fellowship during one of the sessions, where I had the opportunity to inspire and learn from the other scholars."
