A Royal Seal of Approval: Our Official King's Award Ceremony

As many of you know, early this year it was announced that Ascendant Solutions received The King's Awards for Enterprise (Innovation). On the 17th of October 2023, our award was officially presented to us.

The day began with our guests, families and staff arriving at the home of Ascendant Solutions (St Catherine’s House, Doncaster), enjoying the build-up to what would be a memorable day for all to be a part of and witness. As the presentation room started to fill and conversations began it was time to welcome His Majesties Lord-Lieutenant of the County of South Yorkshire.

The Lord Lieutenant, Professor Dame Hilary Chapman DBE entered the room, dressed in her ceremonial uniform. Before her presentation of the King's Award, Darren Kelk (Managing Director of Ascendant Solutions) had a few words to say.

He went on to share some insights about the humble beginnings of Ascendant Solutions compared to where the business is today, explaining how our software has shaped nearly a third of councils across the UK and how incredibly proud he is of the team that worked day and night towards a solution that has been recognised with the highest of accolades “Kings Award for Enterprise (Innovation)”, a remarkable achievement.

Following the insight into work that went into the submission for the Kings Award, both of our IRRV Awards were presented to us by Nick Rowe IRRV (Hons), on his first official engagement as the newly elected President of the IRRV, so a truly memorable day for marking the third consecutive year which we've received the Excellence in Innovation, a unique achievement.

Finally, Dame Hilary made her way up to the front and began to explain what a phenomenal achievement this award was. She revealed to the audience that Ascendant were one of just 12 entries from Yorkshire and the Humber to receive the award, making this award even more impressive.

After Dame Hilary’s speech, Darren and Richard (Technical Director) were invited to the podium. There they were handed the crystal trophy, which was shortly followed by a round of applause and a cheer of success from all present.

Overall, the day was incredible. The ceremony, the company, and the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire made this a truly special day. We'd like to thank everybody who came to celebrate the day with us.
