Roxil Spring - how to prepare & preserve outdoor wood

Spring is on the way! As we head into March and its promises of brighter skies with warmer days, it's almost time to think about the garden we’ve spent the winter months neglecting. While it's easy to remember to maintain plants and veggies, we often forget about the garden chairs and tables that suffered through the rain and winds of winter.

Although timber is an incredibly resilient material, it naturally degrades under sunlight and rain. This month on Built to Protect, we’re going to briefly take you through the first 2 steps to perfectly protected outdoor wood: Prepare and Preserve.?

Be sure to subscribe to make sure you get the next edition direct to your inbox to discover how to Stain and Finish outdoor timber.

Keep this info in mind when you restore:

  • Sheds

Preparation always depends on how badly damaged the wood currently is. It may involve stripping away damaged prior treatments like paint or varnish, resolving woodworm infestation, sanding or cleaning. The goal here is to get the wood back to a smooth surface, ready for preserving, staining and waterproofing.?

Roxil 100 Wood & Patio Cleaner is a great choice for fast and non-abrasive cleaning. Its biodegradable formulation cleans away mould and algae. Simply use a stiff brush and a garden hose to perfectly prepare outdoor timber for further treatment.

If your wood has been damaged by woodworm or rot, repair it with Roxil Wood Filler. An all-in-one rapid-curing polyester resin wood filler kit, it contains everything you need to repair damaged wood. It dries within 1 hour and can be sanded and overpainted once cured. Available in white and natural colours.

Preserve?

Roxil Wood Preserver

Once the timber is repaired, you’re ready to preserve it from future harm.?

Preservers usually take the form of clear biocidal undercoats that protect the wood from woodworm and rot. These are usually either water-based or solvent-based. Water-based wood preservers generally give off fewer fumes than solvent alternatives and take quicker to dry.

Roxil Wood Preserver is a preservative undercoat for outdoor wood. It’s ready to use and increases the lifetime of timber by protecting it from wood rotting fungi and wood-boring beetles. This clear treatment preserves the natural look of your outdoor furniture and structures.

Once you’ve prepared and preserved, it’s time to Stain and Finish.

Say NOPE! to moths

Uh-oh! Moths!

March also brings pests back to our front door. If you start to notice:

  • Small holes or frayed ends of clothes and other fabrics
  • Discarded fibrous casings, often with larvae inside
  • Sticky off-white eggs and tiny white larvae

… you may have clothes moths!

Did you know moths instinctively hate the smell of lavender??

Terpene compounds in lavender are natural insecticides. The same properties are also present in rosemary. Both can be used as natural pesticides to ward away moths, but they won’t cause a whole infestation to disappear.

NOPE! CP Moth Killer is a fast and efficient pest control spray safe for use on soft furnishings and around the home.?
