?Summary for Achievements by Rovers Manitoba:
?Calgary's United Field Hockey Club recently concluded its 5th three-day field hockey tournament, the Alberta Cup from September 03rd-05th 2021. A total of 23 teams from Canada and the USA took part in it.
There were not only men's and women's competitions for this cup; There were also competitions for Under-13 and Under-16 children. Rover’s U-13 played really competitive games and won a silver medal in the Final as Calgary UFC won Gold by 3-1. The Manitoba Rovers U-16 team won the Gold medal under U-16 category by defeating Calgary and the US mix team in Penalty Shoot-outs, during the first half Manitoba was trailing by 3-1 but showed great play and level score at 4-4 at the end, which led to a penalty shoot-out and rover’s goalie Amit blocked 3 goals and brought victory to Rovers. Rover’s Women’s team also won silver as lost in the final from UFC by 3-1. The men’s team also played with great temperament during league matches with 2 wins and 1 loss which cemented the team’s place in Semi-finals. The team played against one of the strongest teams of Canada in the Semi-final where they lost by 6-3. But with goal scoring and difference Team was awarded 3rd position.
Rover’s player Kolin Jacob was awarded player of tournament under-13, Rupinderpal was awarded the Best player under 16, and Elana was awarded in Women’s division.
Rovers would like to thanks Avnish Jolly, solicitor of JOLLY PROFESSIONAL LAW CORPORATION, WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, for his contribution and encouraging the club to develop local talent and take them up to national and international level for Canada. Club also took his slogan as Team slogan as 'EVERY CHILD MATTERS', which means - 'Every child has?his/her own significance'. This slogan in itself has proved to be very inspiring for children.
Under the able guidance of head coach Dr. Thomas Jacob of the Manitoba Rovers Under-16 team, Mr. Veer Partap Singh, the Manager of the Team, Junior Coach Arshpreet Singh, Gurbhej Singh, Women's Coach Jacob and Aman Gill has able to achieve the above results in recent tournaments and committed to working hard for future. During the preparation of these hockey teams, the contribution of volunteers like Mrs. Kiran Sharma, working for the Seven Oaks School Division, and Arshnoor studying at the University of Manitoba has also been noteworthy.
The club would like to thanks Vincent Gomez and Tejinder Singh Gill are also volunteers for the firm. All of these have been instrumental in promoting the game of hockey in Canada.
