A round-tuit

A round-tuit

Have you ever seen a round-tuit? My Dad used to have one hanging on the wall at our Cabin. It’s a handy little rubber circle about 4-5 inches in diameter. It is used to grip and open jar lids. Clever little invention, named after the catch phrase, “I’ll do it when I get around to it.”

I found one in my kitchen this week, and started pondering the real meaning behind the phrase. The personality trait it represents. That frustrating type who is not a follow-through person, but rather that weighed down, never quite getting it done friend. Almost paralyzed by the heaviness of their good intentions. Don’t you sometimes want to just jump in and do “it” for them? Sometimes, you might just have to.

After all, if you are the get-it-done type, you are probably waiting for the get-around-to-it to complete their part, so you can finish your section of the project. You work with deadlines, and do your darndest to meet them. You even do your best work knowing the finish line is just ahead. And when you reach it….ahh, the sweet savory feeling of satisfaction of a job well done.

Which one best describes you? Since you are reading this, chances are you face life with a go-get-it attitude. Create your dream. Set your goals. And hit the ground running. That’s a sure path to success in the influence world.  Success lies in action. Until you’re not clear what comes next. At which point inaction, silent reflection in the pause between two breaths, can be your greatest source of clarity.

If you find yourself saying “I’ll get around tuit” more often than not, it may simply be a lack of clarity on what you really want.

Today’s action: Reflect back on one idea that is still waiting on you to take action. Either ditch it, or put in back on the planning board, and decide how to jump start it.  Bonus level - rinse and repeat.

We gave my late father in law a round disc with the words "tu-it" written on top. He was a Saskatchewan farmer that hoarded or hung onto things just in case lol. Miss him ?
