The Rough Road to Revitalization of European Utilities
Ferdinand Varga
Managing Director and Senior Partner at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) | Energy and Utilities
Powerful forces are fundamentally altering the utility industry in Europe. Some of the most significant includes stagnating demand, the shift from conventional to renewable energy, and the growing popularity of distributed power. The result: sources of earnings for utilities -- and the basis for competitive advantage in the industry -- are shifting dramatically.
A few months ago, I co-authored a BCG focus report ?The Rough Road to Revitalization for European Utilities” with Christophe Brognaux, Jens Burchardt, Jér?me Hervé, Frank Klose, Jan Limet, Tobias Pfingsten and Dominik Thiel. The paper explores the dynamics reshaping the European utility industry and articulates how company leaders should respond.
I was happy to present the key findings of the report at Budapest Energy Summit, Platts Central and Eastern European Power Conference in Warsaw and at ZF Power Summit in Bucharest. I truly hope you will find interesting perspectives in the paper.
