Rotary Clubs Join Forces for a Greener Denver
In a combined celebration of #ArborDay , #EarthDay and the Rotary District 5450 Conference, Rotarians from across the state planted 30 trees with the help of their partners The Parks People and City of Denver Forestry and Parks and Recreation agencies.
The event, held at the City of Cuernavaca Park near downtown Denver was spearheaded by Denver Mile High Rotary Club (DMHRC) and its partners.
The greening of the park was inspired, according to DMHR club member Paul Foster, by the international effort to plant a trillion trees.
The success of the project, according to Foster, is the first step to reach a goal for the DMHRC to assist in planting 10,000 trees in the future.
“Trees are so important, for so many reasons,” fellow Rotarian Marty Waters said. They provide shade, they are critical to wildlife habitat, they enable many forms of outdoor recreation, and they sequester carbon.”
Committee member Nic Wilson added, “Not to mention the many uses of the wood from trees including the innovative use in buildings to minimize the need for non-renewable materials like steel and concrete.”
MHR Club president Annely Noble said she was thrilled with the partnerships, passion and hard work that was accomplished on a beautiful springtime day in Colorado. “I was especially happy that we had representatives of twelve Rotary Clubs as well as International Rotary Club Director Dan Himelspach and District Governor Buchi Anikpezie.”
