Is AI The Snake That’ll Eat Its Own Tail?

Large language models like ChatGPT are trained on huge amounts of data. Scraping from websites, books, social media, and more. Analyzing the collected data, LLMs learn how to predict what comes next in text. The snake that…? The snake that eats its own tail. The LLM learns to generate contextually relevant predictions, just like a human.

This training strategy inevitably brings bias to LLMs. Meaning they can suggest results that match common ideas. The loudest voice. But, what does this do for innovation? Ideas that spring out of nowhere? We’d still be traveling in horse-drawn carriages. The moon? Penicillin??

AI Act

Council gives final greenlight to the first worldwide rules on AI

Last week, the European Council approved the AI Act. Comprehensive regulations that support transparency and enforce strict regulations for high-risk AI systems.

This landmark legislation follows a risk-based approach, that ensures the development and adoption of safe and trustworthy AI systems.

Highlights include systems that engage in practices such as cognitive behavioral manipulation and social scoring will be banned, along with the use of AI for predictive policing. Non-compliance will lead to fines, defined as a percentage of the offending business’ annual turnover.

The new law “aims to ensure respect of fundamental rights of EU citizens and stimulate investment and innovation on artificial intelligence in Europe.”??
