Rossum Newsletter - AI Agents - Buzzword to Reality, Hidden in Plain Sight

Hi Fat Fingers fans ??

Happy New Year! Ready to kick off 2025?

Word on the street, this year we're entering the agentic AI era. Proactive, able to reason and plan, AI agents can autonomously execute complex tasks without constant user input.

We have a ton to say on the subject, kicking off this month with our editorial discussing NVIDIA CEO's statement at CES 2025.

BTW, if you prefer, you can receive our newsletter as an email. Okay, let's get this show on the road...

Your AI’s Real Boss!

The tech world is buzzing after NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's provocative CES 2025 statement that "the IT department of every company is going to be the HR department of AI agents." While this makes for a catchy soundbite, it ignores a crucial truth - AI needs business leadership, not just technical oversight.

AI agents are transforming business operations. These aren't just sophisticated software tools – they're digital coworkers that can autonomously plan and execute complex tasks. But relegating their management to IT departments ignores the vital role of business expertise. Like any worker, they need the right boss.

Think about your organization's most effective teams. HR handles administrative aspects, but department managers drive performance, set objectives, and ensure work quality. Similarly, while IT should manage the technical deployment and infrastructure of AI agents, business leaders must actively shape how these digital workers integrate into their teams and processes, and deliver value.

Domain expertise isn't optional. It's essential. A marketing manager understands the nuances of customer engagement way better than an IT professional. A finance director knows exactly what constitutes a well-processed invoice. These business leaders are the real bosses who must guide, evaluate, and refine AI agents' performance within their domains.

What we need is a collaborative model where IT provides the technical foundation and security guardrails, while business leaders drive the strategic deployment and oversight of AI agents. This ensures we harness AI's potential while maintaining human judgment where it matters most.

The future of AI in business isn't about IT departments acting as HR. It's about empowering the right leaders to manage both human and artificial intelligence effectively.

Why are we talking about AI agents? Hey! It's the latest buzzword and it's producing gallons of honey. Seriously - stepping over Winnie the Pooh - we're going to be introducing you to some of our coworkers real soon…
